Barnegat Light Osprey Cam

by Petstreampublished on July 29, 2020

Live view from Barnegat Light, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. The female at this nest is the same as the past two years that this nest has been occupied. On May 1 we confirmed that the 14 year old male is back!!

The first egg was laid on April 20, second on 4/23 and the third egg was laid early on 4/26! Hatching should begin around May 28-30. The first egg hatched late in the afternoon on May 28 and then the second hatched early on May 30. Then the third finally hatched early on June 1. This is the first time that this pair (who have nested here since 2018) produced three young! We are planning to band all three young during the last week of June. Young were banded with federal and state aux. color bands for future tracking at 5pm on June 30 – 03/M, 04/M, and 05/M.

We are contributing to a research project on osprey prey and nest success at osprey cams worldwide. Please use this form to record prey that is delivered at the nest: https://forms.gle/wkJoDy5cuYje1mZ37
